Since 1st of May 2021 drone pilots and model plane owners must register as UAS owners (unmanned aircraft systems) at the Luftfahrtbundesamt (German FAA). We explain who this applies to and what you need to do. By the way: We take care of registration for our customers in the leisure sector.
This applies to drones and plane models with a take-off weight of 250 g or more, or when your drone has a camera or other sensors for capturing personal data/images. If your UAS does not have that and weighs less than 250 g you don’t have to register.
After the registration you will receive a European registration number for UAS owners, the so-called e-ID which is personal. This is valid in all European countries.
The e-ID replaces the plate with name and address which was used so far. It does not have to be fireproof like that address plate anymore. But the e-ID must be attached to every drone that is navigated.
So it’s one e-ID per person for all drones of that pilot.
As a private or commercial UAS owner you will have to state the following:
Natural persons:
Legal entities:
The fee for a natural person is 20 Euro, for a legal entity it’s 50 Euro.
We charge 5 Euro for the registration. Due to our cooperation with the DMFV our customers who are living in Germany enjoy the benefits as extraordinary association members, like the cheaper registration. If desired, we can register you directly via the DMFV at the LBA. After the registration you will receive an e-mail from the LBA with the login data for your user account. In the user account you can find your e-ID and all necessary information.
You can ask for this additional service during the application for our drone insurance or model flight insurance - or contact us directly!
