Regardless of how small it may be: as soon as a drone carries a camera or other sensors for data collection, the operator must register with the relevant aviation authority and display the resulting e-ID on the drone.
In Germany, this authority is the Federal Aviation Office (Luftfahrt-Bundesamt, or LBA), which charges a one-time fee of € 20.00 for the process. You will also need to provide details of the mandatory drone liability insurance which we offer with annual premiums starting at € 39.96.
When applying for drone insurance, private drone pilots residing in Germany can opt to have their registration handled at the same time. We will take care of this for you through the association DMFV e. V. for a one-time fee of just € 5.00.
That’s an instant saving of € 15.00, and your e-ID will arrive promptly via email.
