Contrary to some claims on the internet, our personal drone liability insurance policies are also valid and legally compliant in Austria. No specific model needs to be named in the policy.
We received the following response from the Austrian air navigation service provider AustroControl to our explicit inquiry in this regard on February 4, 2025:
"From the point of view of aviation law, Austro Control as the competent aviation authority does not require any specific device data in the insurance contract for liability insurance. (Other insurance-specific legal standards naturally remain unaffected by this and may impose stricter requirements on the insurance contract/policy). Legal opinions to the contrary on the Internet are legal interpretations of third parties without confirmation by the competent authorities or national or European courts...“ (transalted from German)
The following clarification can be found on the AustroControl website:
„Important: To operate a drone in Austria, you must have insurance coverage that complies with the requirements of the Austrian Aviation Act.
The minimum coverage amount must be at least 750,000 Special Drawing Rights (SDR).
Please note that insurance requirements may differ for drone operations in other EU countries.“
The minimum cover of 750,000 SDRs is shown both in our policies and on the DMO insurance certificates.
